Clinical trial 1st treatment: November 08, 2007
VEGF Trap: Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor for Breast Cancer patient with Metastatic Breast Cancer.Today was my 1st VEGF Trap treatment for my recurring Breast Cancer. I arrived at my Dr.’s office at 08:45 my daughter came with me. We both sat quiet in the waiting room both of us nervous and not knowing what to except. It brought back memories of the very 1st time I had chemo 4 years ago for my uterine and cervical cancer. The fear of the unknown came over both of us. Ideal talk was all we could do neither one of us spoke of what was about to happen. They called me in at 09:10. The clinical trial I am in is farley new and my RN was reading from the protocol list as she brought us into the treatment room, I am one of 45 women under going this study so they are not sure of all the side effects yet. The usual happen and they drew my blood they took more samples then before. I also had to take a urine test to measure any protein that may be in my urine. They will be watching my kidney function very closely. All the testing and the counseling before the treatment started took about 1 hour. My clinical trial team was there but this all seemed new to them also. But I felt I was in good hands, so after the last of my test were done including doing the vitals signs Blood pressure temp. Etc. I was ready to start. Unlike Chemo no steroids were needed and nothing to counteract any allergic reaction. Just the new drug, as she began the drip and the drug began coursing throw my veins I had no idea what it was going to fill like, I kept waiting on something to happen but nothing did. My team checked on me every 15 minuets BP and temps were taken. My blood pressure was great and had no signs of a fever.. The drug ran for 1 hour and when done they kept me ½ hour longer to make sure I felt ok, All in all not very eventful, went easy and my daughter and I went out to lunch and did a little shopping. When we got home I felt a little tired but that’s about it. I just pray this works. I will keep up dates on my progress so stay tune…..

Cheryl, that’s so great to hear that you haven’t had any adverse side effects from the new drug. I’m praying with you that it’ll work. Hugs…Grace
